Frequently Asked Questions

Power of NJ Birth Stories is an initiative that collects and analyzes diverse birth experiences across New Jersey to improve maternal care statewide. Invited respondents were identified by the New Jersey Department of Health using a scientific sampling method that ensures representation of New Jersey's racial, ethnic and linguistic diversity. It's a community-engaged approach to gather insights that can transform maternity care.

The primary goal is to amplify the voices of birthing individuals in New Jersey to identify solutions that can reduce illness and death associated with childbirth and improve care for all people to thrive.

Power of NJ Birth Stories  uses a private, invite-only survey to gather qualitative and quantitative data from people who have recently given birth in New Jersey. The survey focuses on their experiences throughout the spectrum of maternity care.

A team of passionate liaisons representing eight counties in New Jersey conduct the surveys. They connect with families at various locations, including health fairs, community baby showers, hospitals, grocery stores, and playgrounds.

These stories are crucial because they:

  1. Help identify real solutions to improve quality of care
  2. Address racial disparities in maternal health outcomes
  3. Empower communities to advocate for better care
  4. Guide policy decisions and clinical practices
  5. Contribute to a future where all people can thrive

Power of NJ Birth Stories  partners with local organizations, healthcare providers, and community leaders to reach diverse populations across all regions of New Jersey. They also ensure that survey materials are accessible, readable, and relevant.

Liaisons help guide survey distribution and completion, assist with data collection, ensure survey recruitment efforts reach identified participants, and make sure materials are accessible and relevant.
